Surveying

At the start of December the class turned its attention to learning about surveying and from mid-December until now we were tasked with individually surveying a building in Northampton town centre. It started with site visits and theodolites and by the end we were expected to have produced multiple hand drawn sketches and elevations. I enjoyed using the theodolite despite the strange looks although I couldn't help but feel like I was learning to use outdated technology, although I concede that learning the principles will definitely be useful.

The building its self was in a state of disrepair with uneven brick sizes, crumbling walls, exposed joists: you name it. It is a still used commercial building on St Michaels Road, though it has evidently had its neighbour knocked down which may have had an impact on its structural integrity.

This is my own photo of the building from believe it or not, it's better side!

Another blog post will follow with my elevation drawings and sketches once they have been assessed.
